Distinguished Army Veteran, Leading the Way for Reducing Veteran Suicide

Nick was a Ranger-qualified Army Officer leading Paratroopers with the 173rd Airborne Brigade for 27 months in Afghanistan combat zones.

Throughout his six years of military service, Nick earned two Bronze Stars and an Army Commendation Medal for Valor. As a Field Artillery Officer, he consistently outperformed his peers, ranking 1st among 50 officers in a top-tier Infantry Battalion.

His time in service drove the vision to start Stop Soldier Suicide, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on reducing the suicide rate among veterans.

Army Veteran, Entrepreneur, Speaker, Author, Social Media Fundraising Expert

Meet Nick Black, the Co-founder and CEO of GoodUnited. Nick prioritizes sharing his knowledge and experience – as an Army veteran, tech-focused entrepreneur, engaging speaker, author, and social media fundraising expert.

Pioneering Social Tech for Good

Nick is the Co-founder and CEO of GoodUnited, the world’s first fundraising platform for social networks.

The venture-backed SaaS company has helped the world’s largest nonprofits raise over $1 billion and was ranked No. 460 on the 2022 Inc. 5000 Annual list.

Nick’s role in leading the organization resulted in him being named as a finalist for EY’s Southeast Entrepreneur of the Year in 2023.

Engaging Speaker

Nick is an in-demand speaker and consultant on startups, entrepreneurship, and social media fundraising strategies.

He speaks to thousands of entrepreneurs each year, both in-person and virtually.

Author

Nick’s passion for nonprofit fundraising on social networks has resulted in the co-creation of the new book One-Click to Give.

The premise is simple: What would happen if nonprofits embraced social networks to not just raise funds for their mission, but using social media to build connections with supporters in a deeper and more meaningful way?

About Nick

Before establishing GoodUnited in 2014, Nick earned his BA from The Johns Hopkins University, where he was actively involved in various activities. He played varsity football for four years, led the Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity as President twice, and received a four-year scholarship from the Army ROTC program.

He then went on to get his MBA from Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina. There, he was recognized for his leadership with the Rollie Tillman Award, became a Kenan Institute Leadership Fellow, led the Veterans Club, and was honored as the 2018 Distinguished Young Alumnus by Kenan-Flagler Business School.

Nick now lives in Charleston, South Carolina, with his wife Amanda. They have two children, a ten-year-old daughter and an eight-year-old son, along with two dogs.
